Shanghai Party Secretary and First Secretary of Shanghai Garrison of the PLA Yu Zhengsheng on January 2 urged the local armed police to try their best to ensure the security and smooth operation of the Expo 2010, which opens on May 1.
Yu pointed out during an inspection tour of the armed police that Expo 2010 is another major international event hosted by China after Beijing Olympics. He said the armed police should follow the orders from Central Committee of Communist Party of China, the State Council, Central Military Commission and Hu Jintao, chairman of the commission in guaranteeing the security of the event.
Yu stressed that the forces assigned to protect the World Expo must adopt the strictest requirements, the highest standards and make the greatest efforts in carrying out all the measures necessary to ensure the safe operation of the event.

Accompanied by Chief Commander Liu Hongkai and Political Commissar Hu Hanwu of the armed police, Yu visited a training base and talked with female soldiers there. Yu also inspected soldier's dorms near the Expo site. Yu asked about soldiers' working, training and living conditions and offered New Year greetings to armed policemen there.
Later, accompanied by Jiang Qinhong, chief commander of Shanghai Garrison of the People's Liberation Army and Li Guangjin, political commissar of the garrison, Yu visited a camp of military engineers of bomb squads affiliated to PLA Nanjing Military Area Command.
