The statistics from the July 15 meeting of World Expo Site Commercial Management Department show that food and drinking sales boomed during the first two months, reaching over 700 million yuan.
From May to June, 131 restaurants in public areas (not including the 19 restaurants in the Expo Culture Center) received over 12.26 million customers, and sales volume reached 546 million yuan. Sales from the nearly 80 restaurants and bars in the exhibitions reached 154 million yuan. Sales from 10 convenience stores, 6 bread stores and 27 tent stores reached 21.82 million yuan.
"The public restaurants are the main force of the total food sales," said Lin Shengyong, director of the World Expo Site Commercial Management Department. "The number of diners is increasing as the visiting number is increasing. Now the percentage is stabilized between 50 percent and 55 percent."
According to a survey of visiting consumers, Lin Shengyong said that the visiting passenger flow volume is better than that of Aichi World Expo in Japan. Attendance will continue to increase with teenage students visiting during summer break. Overseas ticket sales have reached 2 million, and it is estimated that it will be increased to 3.5 million.
