Internationally renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping has announced the nationwide tour of her latest percussion and dance show "Sound of Yunnan". The latest spectacular showcases the percussion instruments of over 20 minority groups in Southwest China's Yunnan Province. The audiences will see bronze bowls, bamboo shakers filled with rice, huge gongs and varied drums, all are rarely seen instruments. Yang herself will also contribute her magnificent performances.
There's an old saying in Yunnan: "Every leaf in Yunnan can dance, every stone in Yunnan can sing. Even the sounds as butterfly flaps its wings are beats, and the sounds of millet growing are melodies". Yang Liping has always been inspired by the rich art of her home. And "Sound of Yunnan" is the sequel to 2004's spectacular "Dynamic Yunnan", which is also directed, choreographed and performed by Yang.
"Sound of Yunnan" debuted in early May in Kunming and was warmly received. Between June 30th and July 5th, the show will be staged at Beijing's Poly Theatre.
As we look forward with anticipation to Yang Liping's latest work, let's review her previous two successful dance productions "Dynamic Yunnan" and "Tibetan Riddle".
