With Monday celebrating long life for seniors, Sunday's festivities on the campus of Peking University represented a celebration of youth. As the 6th Peking University International Cultural Festival came to a close, an exuberant communal spirit was displayed at one of China's most prestigious institutions.
In the midst of passionate song and dance, the Peking University International Cultural Festival arrived at its climax Sunday. Concluding more than a month of activities was an entire day of celebration on campus at the century-old institution.
Apart from the performances, the charm of dozens of the world's cultures were displayed through exhibits presented by international students at the school and foreign embassies in Beijing.
Beginning in mid September, the festival featured a diverse array of cultural activities. Among them were concerts, variety shows, economic forums, and a Chinese speaking contest among international students. Chinese language and culture was the central theme.
Now in its sixth year, the festival has seen its status upgraded from previous editions.
Wang Limei, vice chairwoman of Peking University Council, said, "This festival is meant as an extensive platform for promoting exchange and communication among different cultures. Also, we made a point of presenting traditions and harmonious modern development of China. Actually mutual understanding is one of our school's guidelines."
Currently Peking University has international students from 110 countries. All the different cultures contribute to campus life, which has long been characterized by its open-mindedness.
