The fifty-episode series is now in post production and the images of the characters have drawn wide attention. A more operatic touch is added to the makeup of the characters, with a lock of hair and accessories being glued to the forehead and temples.
While some criticize the makeup for being too operatic, director Li Shaohong says that it is all based on the literature.
Li Shaohong said, "All the clothes and accessories can be traced back to ancient literature and archives of the Qing dynasty."
Three embroidered gowns were made by famous Chinese craftsman Gu Wenxia and her apprentices for the TV series. In addition, costume designer Yip Kap Tim is expected to add more luster to the show.
