The Chinese government condemns a US decision to sell weapons to Taiwan, saying it severely violates the Sino-US Joint Communique. A Foreign Ministry Spokesman says Tuesday that, by doing so, the US is harming China's national security.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ma Zhaoxu points out that the US action threatens China's national security, damages China's cause for unification, and will surely harm Sino-US relations.
Ma Zhaoxu, Spokesman Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "Despite strong objection from China, the US side still insisted on announcing plans to sell weapons to Taiwan. That is bound to further undermine Sino-US relations as well as exchanges and cooperation in many other fields. The US announcement will cause grave negative impact on Sino-US relations and give rise to consequences that both sides are not willing to see."
Ma also noted that China will put specific sanctions on the US companies that are involved in selling weapons to Taiwan.
