Nissan has announced prices for its new electric car- the LEAF for sale in the US and Japanese markets.
The company says the four-door hatchback will have a base price of about 30 thousand U.S. dollars but buyers can get a 7,500 US dollars electric vehicle tax credit.
The Japanese sale price will be the equivalent of 40 thousand US dollars, but net costs will average 30 thousand. Nissan will start selling the battery-powered car in Japan, the US and Britain come December.
Orders for Japanese customers are open today April 1st, and soon afterwards in Europe. The vehicle can travel 160 kilometers on a single charge, with a top speed of about 140 kilometers an hour.
A full charge takes eight hours, but a more powerful quick-charge, available in dealerships, will recharge batteries to 80 percent capacity in under 30 minutes.
