The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico poses a serious threat to wildlife. An oil soaked bird was captured on Monday and given a soapy bath at a wildlife rescue center in Louisiana.
This brown pelican was discovered on an island off the coast of Louisiana. Oil covered about 80 percent of its body.
Jay Holcomb, Director of Int's Bird Rescue & Research Center, said, "When the bird was found could be captured."
Before soaking the pelican in dishwashing liquid, it was pre-treated with canola oil, which helps to break up the oil.
