An investigation is being carried out on Toyota, due to the slow pace of a recall covering defective trucks. The investigation is being undertaken by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Toyota agreed last month to pay a 16.4 million US dollar fine which is the maximum allowed under US law. Millions of Toyota vehicles have been recalled world wide, due to defective accelerator pedals. US authorities are also investigating if Toyota delayed a 2009 recall of all-weather floor mats. In 2004 Toyota made a recall of Hilux trucks with problems for steering relay rods. Toyota said that there were no complaints for the 2004 vehicle problems. But US highway authorities said it was alerted by a number of US customers' complaints filed with Toyota before the 2004 recall.
