Chinese consumers have shown interest in new energy cars in major cities. This comes after the government announced new subsidies for alternative energy autos on June 1st.
At a 4S store in Shenzhen, Mr. Peng is testing out a hybrid powered passenger car. He said he had heard about the government's subsidies, and he is interested in buying. But as details of the subsidies haven't yet been released, he wants to wait.
Mr. Peng, one consumer in Shenzhen said "I want to buy this car, and I'm looking forward to seeing the detailed plan for the government subsidies."
Mr. Peng is one of many consumers now interested in alternative energy autos. Car dealers say since the policy was announced on June 1st, they've seen many more consumers come in to inquire about purchases.
Han Gaoqiang, one auto dealer said "This is our record book of customers. On June 2nd, we had 14 customers. 8 asked about new energy cars. On the 3rd, we had 21 customers, 11 of which were asking about new energy cars."
Dealers say customers who inquired about new energy cars have risen more than 50 percent. But most of them are still waiting, saying they will hold out for detailed information on the subsidies before buying. In addition, they are concerned about how the power charging facilities that recharge the cars will be set up. The convenience of the recharging stations is a key factor in whether they will make the switch to alternative energy.
