World and Olympic champion Usain Bolt out-paced fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell to win the men's 100 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Paris.
Usain Bolt took on fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell in the men's 100 meters and didn't make the best of starts.
He pulled clear of the field at the halfway mark and Powell managed to keep in touch, but Bolt crossed the line in a winning time of 9.84 seconds - a new meeting record - with his compatriot following home in second place, 0.07-of-a-second off the pace. And Yohan Blake completed an all-Jamaican podium.
Usain Bolt, Men's 100m Champion,said, "Well overall, Paris is great, I really enjoy coming here and the race is good overall. I need to work on a few things because I was kind of off this time but I have two weeks to go to Jamaica and try to get it done."
American Jeremy Wariner claimed his fourth win of the Dianmond League season in the men's 400 meters event. Eclipsing his own fastest mark of the year with a time of 44.49 seconds. Jermaine Gonzales of Jamaica made on the second.
Abubaker Kaki Khamis eased to victory in the men's 800 meters. The Sudanese reigning world indoor champion clinched victory in one minute 43.50 seconds to move up into third place in the event's Diamond League ranking.
David Oliver went desperately close to breaking the world record in the men's 110 meters hurdles. The American crossed the finishing line in 12.89 seconds just 0.02-of-a-second shy of Dayron Robles's leading mark.
Allyson Felix, the American sprinter faced little competition and cruised to the win in a time of 22.14 seconds in women's 200 meters. finishing ahead of compatriot Shalonda Solomon and Debbie Ferguson-Mckenzie of the Bahamas.
Renaud Lavillenie gave the home crowd something to cheer in the men's pole vault. The Frenchman was the only man in the field to clear 5.81 meters and he claimed his fourth win in five Diamond League events.
