The annual tomato throwing festival, or Tomatina, has begun in Bu-nol, Spain.
Thousands of tomato enthusiasts have descended on the small provincial town to revel in tomato pulp. The festival originated in 1945, and is a big annual event. It takes place on the last Wednesday of every August.
The concept behind tomatina doesn't seem to be based on anything religious or cultural, I guess it's just an excuse for people to throw over-ripe tomatoes at each other, let off some steam and have fun. It's estimated, up to 500,000 tourists come to the town each year to throw tomatoes for a week.
