Hungary's, State Secretary, for Environment is warning, that the damaged wall of the aluminium industrial reservoir is certain to collapse. Now emergency services are battling to prevent a second torrent of toxic red sludge.
Zoltan Illes, Environment Secretary, said, "According to analyzers these walls for sure will fall down. Why? Because the movement of walls logically speaking are continuing. Why? Because behind the walls 2.5 million cubic meters of red mud is pushing that wall. What is outside? Nothing, air."
The sludge could flood parts of the town already hit by the industrial waste, but stop short of the next town to the north.
Recently discovered cracks, on one of its plant's north walls have stopped widening for now due to favorable weather, but they'll continue to expand, especially at night. So, protective walls are being built around the damaged area to hold back any more spills
