NASA scientists say they have observed an extremely large solar flare stretching more than 700,000 kilometers across the surface of the sun.
The massive flare observed by NASA's orbital Solar Dynamics Observatory, stretches nearly twice the distance between the Earth and moon. It's described by astronomers as a filament, an elongated cloud of cooler gases suspended above the Sun by magnetic forces.
