The recently concluded UN Climate Change Conference in Cancun highlighted the need for a greener planet. And both developed and developing countries have the same goal -to achieve low-emission growth.

Vehicle exhaust is one of the major causes of greenhouse gas emissions. Almost every major auto company is seeking its own cleaner and environmentally friendly technology. CCTV reporter Ai Kuiyu is at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

The Electric Vehicle, or EV, first came into existence in the mid-19th century and has continued to develop since then. One company making its own variations is BYD, an experienced Chinese battery company. With its natural advantage for developing electric cars and the investment of Warren Buffett in 2008, BYD is now playing an important role in the Green Energy industry.

Wang Jianjun, Sales Vice President of BYD Auto Company, said, "We will mainly promote purely electric public transport vehicles. For example, the driving length of a taxi per day is ten times that of a private car . Electric public transport will not only reduce gas emissions but also benefit the local residents."

BYD's Dual Mode Electric Vehicles combine a pure-electric mode with a hybrid drive system that incorporates a small gasoline engine. The Dual Mode system integrates an advanced generator and motor controller, which results in lower fuel consumption and emissions, as well as higher power and performance.

Wang said, "Since March, around 400 private electric cars have been sold in Shenzhen alone. Next year, with a subsidy on auto purchases,we expect the sales volumes to reach 10 thousand in China."

Many auto companies are also looking for a quick and efficient way to put their e-cars on the road as soon as possible. Besides pure electric technology, they are developing Hybrid and Hydrogen energy vehicles in a different way.

Back to BYD, which now has 50 pure electric-taxis serving Shenzhen City. They are challenging the maximum mileage and collecting information for the future public market.
