Beijing has conducted its first ever car license plate lottery, designed to restrict vehicle purchases and curtail the capital's notorious traffic jams.
The lottery started at 10 a.m. in a meeting room with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, representatives of the applicants, statistics experts and transport officials to ensure openness and fairness. 6 of them were picked randomly to push the buttons on a computer, which picked the lucky numbers.
Wu Yi, applicants representative, said, “I was lucky to be chosen as a representative. I took part in this activity for the first time. The whole process is fair and open.”
Apart from this, the whole process was transparent, with the drawing designed by China's top statisticians to ensure the procedure was fair.
Zhou Zhengyu, Deputy Secretary-General of Beijing Municipal Government, said, We carefully designed the procedure, so that it is very strict. Today’s lottery process was successfully conducted. We hope more Beijing residents will take part in it.
