UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says world leaders should view the protests in Egypt as an opportunity to address legitimate concerns of the Egyptian people. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ban said authorities should refrain from using violent measures against demonstrators. Other world leaders are also calling for calm in the country.

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General said "All concerned people or leaders should ensure that the situation in that region, and particularly now in Egypt, does not and should not lead to further violence, and I have been calling on the authorities to see all this situation as an opportunity to engage in addressing the legitimate concerns and wishes of their peoples."

Hillary Clinton, US Secreatary of State said "We strongly believe that the Egyptian government needs to engage immediately with the Egyptian people in implementing needed economic, political and social reforms. We continue to raise with the Egyptian government, as we do with other governments in the region, the imperative for reform and greater openness and participation to provide a better future for all."

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor said "I'm calling upon all involved, and especially the Egyptian government and the President, to allow peaceful demonstrations, to give freedom of opinion a chance. To put people away and imprison them does not bring anything. We have to do everything to reach the end of violence because otherwise there will be innocent victims. Therefore my appeal is to everybody to refrain from violence, but at the same time to enable freedom of opinion and information."
