Chinese Premier Wen Jiaobao is currently in Germany, on the last leg of his European tour. He and Germany's Chancellor, Angela Merkel, are now holding a press conference in Berlin.

Premier Wen and Chancellor Merkel will deliver speeches on the visit, and the state of bilateral relations. Earlier in the day, Premier Wen Jiabao attended a Chinese-German Economic Forum in Berlin, before meeting with Chancellor Merkel in her office.

The two noted the need for bilateral support, and deeper cooperation, to promote the global economic recovery, and reform of the international financial system. Wen Jiabao briefed Merkel on the measures China has taken to counter inflation, maintain stable economic development, and achieve social harmony and stability. Merkel also explained Germany's views on the sovereign debt crisis in Europe.

Mekel says Germany and China will try to increase their annual bilateral trade volume to 200 billion euros by 2015, or about 284 billion US dollars. During the Wen's visit, the two countries are expected to sign 22 state cooperation pacts, estimated to be worth several billion euros. The deals will cover deepening cooperation in several areas, including climate protection, energy efficiency, food safety, education, and the arts.

The issue of China buying more government bonds from debt-riddled countries, is also on the agenda. Beyond bilateral issues, Wen Jiabao and Merkel are also expected to discuss international hot spots, including tension on the Korean Peninsula, along with the situations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Africa, Syria, and Iran.

The largest economies on their respective continents, China and Germany have both seen trade volume rise by leaps and bounds in recent years. Bilateral trade totaled more than 130 billion euros last year, a nearly 40 percent increase from that of 2009. China is now Germany's third biggest trading partner, and the number 7 buyer of German exports last year. China overtook Germany as the world's biggest exporter in 2009.

Germany is the last stop of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's three-nation tour that has also brought him to Hungary and the UK.
