Xiao is a student from China's Southwest University, and was the favorite to win the gold in the women's 48 kilogram category. Xiao produced a solid lift in the snatch competition, hoisting 80 kilos. But the Chinese failed in her attempts at the 83 kilogram level. Xiao fell to fourth place after the snatch. But she would stage a powerful comeback in the clean and jerk. Xiao restored her composure behind a lift of 107 kilos, and secured the gold medal.
The Chinese weightlifter left no doubt by upgrading to 108 kilos. Xiao won the gold with a total of 188.
