"My Way" was inspired by a photograph of a young South Korean man, who was drafted into the Japanese army during the Japanese colonial period, and then dragged off by the Soviet military. He was captured again after being sent to fight in German uniform in the fierce Battle of Normandy during the Second World War in 1944.

Director Kang saw a documentary about the photograph at the National Archives, and then developed a plot on the changing dynamics between two friends during wartime.

Kang Jae-Gyu, Director, "My way", said, "I thought there could be no story this dramatic and so full of ups and downs. This story was a great blessing to me, and it was an opportunity that will never come again. So I felt that I must make a film about it. "

Kang also explained that the visual effects were only possible because the actors and crew put their very best efforts into the project right up until the last shot. The actors agreed that making the filming had been hard, but the end result justified the work.

Joe Odagiri, Actor, "My Way", said, "Shooting the film was very difficult. Watching the film today reminded me a lot of those days. However, it also made me feel like we did not suffer in vain."

Fan Bingbing, Actress, "My Way", said, "We all worked hard for every scene, and due to all those efforts, a true work of art came out. This film is almost Asia's best combination not only in casting, but also technically."

"My Way" is director Kang Jae-gyu's first work in seven years after his last successful film, "The Brotherhood of War". After 14 months' pre-production and 7 months' filming, the picture has set a record for having the largest budget in South Korean cinema at over 25 million US dollars.

"My Way" will be released on December 22nd.
