Three children and an adult have been fatally shot outside a Jewish school in Toulouse, in southern France. Witnesses say the attacker fled on a scooter.

The shooting occurred at about 8:10 a.m. local time Monday just ahead of the start of classes. French Interior Minister Claude Gueant rushed to Toulouse later in the morning, and ordered strengthened surveillance around Jewish schools. President Nicolas Sarkozy will also head to Toulouse and visit the school.

The shooting happened in the same area where a gunman shot and killed two on Thursday, and four days earlier, another paratrooper was shot dead. The attacker in both cases fled on a scooter. It is not immediately clear if all three shootings are related.
