Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang has arrived in Shanghai after undergoing an operation on his achilles tendon in the UK last Thursday.
A number of fans and media, as well as Shanghai's vice mayor greeted Liu at the airport. He is scheduled to go directly to his training base and receive further treatment there.
The 2004 Olympic champion crashed on the first hurdle of his 110-meter heat in the London games, injuring his right achilles tendon. He then hopped the entire stretch of the track on his left foot. His coach Sun Haiping said the operation was very successful and Liu Xiang is recovering well.
Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's coach said, "According to doctors' suggestions, he can do some exercises after 3 months. There are two parts of his rehabilitation training, one is for his achilles tendon, the other is for his entire body's recovery."
