US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has once again asserted that she takes full responsibility for security failures leading to the assault at the US Consulate in Benghazi. The attack on September 11th in Libya's second largest city left US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "As I have said many times, I take responsibility and nobody is more committed to getting this right. I am determined to leave the State Department and our country safer, stronger, and more secure."
Clinton told Congress on Wednesday that the State Department was moving swiftly to strengthen security at US missions worldwide after last year's deadly raid on the consulate in Libya.
Clinton's testimony comes after more than three months of Republican charges that the Obama administration ignored signs of deteriorating security... and misinformed the public by explaining the attack as a backlash over an anti-Muslim video.
Washington officials suspect that militants linked to al-Qaida carried out the attack.
