Premier Li Keqiang says China will continue to adhere to its path of reform and opening up, while seeking a peaceful road to success. The Premier was addressing the 21st Century Council forum in Beijing on Friday afternoon. The global think tank is in the Chinese capital, discussing China’s development and role in global governance.
At the opening ceremony, Premier Li Keqiang said the government’s top priority remains economic development and improving people’s livelihoods. He said China will take a measured approach to reforming tax and fiscal systems, finance, pricing and enterprises, and he called opening-up "an engine for reform".
Premier Li says the Chinese economy will continue to grow at medium to high speed in the coming years... and that the transformation of the country’s economic growth model will benefit the entire global community. Li also reassured delegates at the forum about China’s peaceful intentions.
Former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown is among a string of former heads of state attending the forum, which also gathers top global intellectuals and entrepreneurs.
