In Paris, a celebratory show called "A Night of China" was held at the city’s Grand Palace on Monday night. The event marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and France and heralded a series of events marking the occasion.
French-based Chinese pianist Wu Chenye opened the show with a solo performance. And it wasn’t just music- artists from China and France demonstrated a number of skills, from horsemanship and acrobatics to Kung fu.
Chinese culture minister Cai Wu attended the event while French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault delivered a speech to express his hope of strengthening cooperation and cultural exchange.
The Chinese delegation gave a gift of a pair of high heeled shoes, symbolizing a combination of ancient Chinese culture and French fashion. More than 300 activities will be held in both countries to celebrate the momentous occasion, one of which is a tour of French art to China, including Rodin’s signature sculpture "The Thinker".
