It will be a busy time for global leaders gathering in Beijing for the APEC leadership summit that runs from Nov. 5th to Nov. 11th. But for many Beijingers who work in the state and public sectors, the summit will be an unexpected six-day vacation started from Nov. 7th through Nov. 12th.
Beijing's west train station expects the peak to come on November 5th, when 190 thousand people will leave the city through the station. And that's just the estimate of one of the four railway junctions in Beijing. The vacation plan was approved by local authorities earlier this month, in order to ease traffic during the APEC meetings.
Tourism administrations in eight provinces and cities also have tailor-made six-day tour packages especially for Beijingers escaping the hustle and bustle during APEC week. Some popular tourist hotspots even provide discount for visitors with Beijing IDs.
