Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Leung Chun-ying, and his Macao counterpart Chui Sai On, who are in Beijing to report on their work.

Xi Jinping said in the past year, with the support of the central government, Leung has led the Hong Kong government in making significant progress in areas such as housing, poverty alleviation, and technological innovation.
He has safeguarded national sovereignty and security in curbing "Hong Kong independence" and dealt with street violence according to the law.

On these issues, Hong Kong has acted strictly according to the Basic Law, the NPC Standing Committee's interpretation of the Basic Law, and laws of the SAR. He praised Leung's contribution to the "one country, two systems", and the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
In his meeting with Chui Sai On, Xi Jinping said Chui has led the Macao government in administrative reform, diversifying the economy and examining its gambling industry.
Xi said the general situation in Macao is good, especially in implementing the "one country, two systems" and in safeguarding national security and unity.
