China opposes to actions beyond UN authorization in Libya
May-4-2011

China voiced opposition on Tuesday to actions that were beyond the authorizations of the UN Security Council.

"China is concerned about increasing tensions in Libya which have caused many casualties," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu, adding that her country always opposes any actions beyond the UN Security Council's authorization.

"We hope involved parties will cease fire immediately and resolve the current crisis through political means such as dialogue and negotiation," Jiang noted.

The military operation was launched after the U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution on March 17 to enforce a no-fly zone on Libya and to take "all necessary measures" to protect civilians in Libya.

The Libyan government confirmed on Sunday that Muammar Gaddafi's youngest son and three grandchildren were killed in a NATO airstrike on a house where the Libyan leader and his family were staying at the time.

"Most members of the international community agree to a political solution to the crisis in Libya," the spokeswoman stressed, expressing her hopes that parties involved could enhance political efforts to ease the tension in the country soon.
