An Afghan newspaper in its editorial on Saturday lashed at the country's election body over what it termed involvement in fraud and called for its revamp.

"The people of Afghanistan have no more trust in the election commission and so they want a new body to manage and look after the election and at least a new body to enjoy the trust of both candidates," daily 8Subh emphasized.

In order to restore the trust of people to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), 8Subh added that legal action should be taken against those involved in fraud in the first round of the polls.

Afghanistan's second presidential election held on August 20 in which Karzai secured over 54 percent of nearly 6 million votes has gone for second round due to widespread fraud confirmed by UN and the runoff would be held on November 7.

It added that the fraud-tainted presidential election had defamed the democratization process in Afghanistan and cautioned that any malpractice in runoff would further damage the process and gives the message that Afghanistan is not ready for acceptance of democracy.
