China, Brazil pledge closer cooperation

China and Brazil should and will strengthen parliamentary cooperation to further the development of bilateral ties, top Chinese political adviser Jia Qinglin said Wednesday at a meeting with the president of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies, Michel Temer.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that in the new century, China and Brazil have been advancing cooperation in such fields as economy, science and technology, energy and finance, as well as in international affairs.
Jia noted that profound and complicated changes are taking place globally, and the deepening of pragmatic cooperation serves the core interests of both China and Brazil.
It is also conducive to promoting South-South cooperation and world economic growth as both China and Brazil are big developing countries, he said.
Jia called for the deepening of the political mutual trust between China and Brazil by exchanging views on key issues of bilateral ties and of global issues in a timely manner to push forward bilateral strategic collaboration.
Pragmatic cooperation should also be strengthened in all fields, especially in advanced science and technology, he said.
Jia said both sides, in line with the interests of the developing countries, ought to intensify collaboration and coordination in such international affairs as climate change.
For his part, Temer praised the increasingly solid and close China-Brazil relationship, saying it is beneficial to both countries.
On behalf of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, he expressed the will to strengthen ties with Chinese legislators.
On the issue of climate change, Temer said China and Brazil share broad common interests and should join hands in defending the interests of the developing countries.
Temer said the Brazilian metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, which will host the Olympic Games in 2016, hopes to draw experience and inspiration from the success of the Beijing Games last year.
Jia arrived Wednesday for an official goodwill visit to Brazil, the last leg of his four-nation tour, which has taken him to the Philippines, Peru and Ecuador.
