Yemeni security forces supported with military jets killed on Thursday 34 al-Qaida members and arrested 17 others in a crackdown in capital Sanaa and southern province of Abyan, 26 September daily reported on its website.
An anonymous security source told the army-run online daily the forces attacked near dawn a number of al-Qaida hideouts in Arhab directorate, north of capital Sanaa, killing four and arresting four others.
The group was planning, according to the source, suicidal operations and terrorist attacks against government facilities and foreign institutions in Yemen.
In a separate operation, Yemeni forces stormed an al-Qaida training center in Abyan province, southern Yemen, and killed 30 people. Some foreigners were among the victims, the source said.
Thirteen other extremists were captured in separate attacks in Sanaa, he added.
