Four policemen and a civilian was killed and three people wounded in separate attacks, while Iraqi security forces arrested a would-be suicide bomber in Baghdad, Iraqi security forces said Wednesday.
Four policemen were shot when gunmen attacked their checkpoint in Abu Ghraib area, west of Baghdad, a local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In Baghdad, a bomb attached to a minibus carrying passengers detonated in the neighborhood of Kadhmiyah in northern the capital, killing a passenger and wounding three others, a police source told Xinhua.
In separate incident, Iraqi security forces searched a suspected house in Baghdad's western district of Jami'a and arrested a would-be suicide bomber, seizing three explosive-belts and 24 bags of chemical substances which can be used in homemade bombs, Qassim Atta, spokesman of Baghdad operations command, said in a statement.
Intelligence reports said that the suspect was preparing to carry out suicide attack on civilians and Iraqi security forces in the neighborhood, Atta added.
Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq as part of recent security deterioration which shaped a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country ahead of the country 's national polls next year.
