European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Foreign Affairs High Representative Catherine Ashton will be in Shanghai to open the EU Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai on May 1st, 2010.
Barroso will lead a high-level delegation of EU Commissioners to pay a visit to China from April 29th to May 1st. He will meet with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese officials during his visit.
And Barroso will officially open the new Europe-China Clean Energy Centre (EC2) at Tsinghua University on April 30th. He will also deliver a speech to students on this occasion.
The Europe-China Clean Energy Centre (EC2) is a project designed and agreed between the European Commission and the National Energy Administration of China. Its objective is to promote an increased use of clean energy in China.
The EU delegation will include Foreign Affairs High Representative Catherine Ashton along with Commissioners for Trade, Economics, Energy, Environment, Climate Action, Digital Agenda and Education & Culture.
The EU shares the pavilion with Belgium which will be holding the rotating presidency in the second half of 2010.
The EU Pavilion centered on theme of "Intelligent Europe", including the following four parts:
"Building Europe" gives a brief history of the EU and its key values and objectives; "Open Europe" displays a panorama of the economic and social achievements of a Europe without internal borders, including the euro, the Schengen visa and the Erasmus study program; "Green Europe" is devoted to the EU's ambitions to offer all citizens a "better city" and a "better life"; And finally "Living Europe" presents the colorful and vibrant European life.
