A top commander of Pakistani Taliban militants Mawlana Fazul Raman was killed in Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province, a police officer said Thursday.
"Mawlana Fazul Rahman was killed during a clash with police in Barg-e-Matal district on Wednesday," the officer told Xinhua but declined to be identified.
Afghan Interior Ministry has yet to make a comment.
Couple of days ago, Afghan media reported that some 300 Pakistani Taliban fighters under Mawlana Fazul Rahman raided Barg- e-Matal district in Nuristan province.
"The armed rebels carried out a failed attack on Barg-e-Matal district on Tuesday which left seven insurgents dead," a statement of Afghan Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
The statement also confirmed that one policeman was killed and five others including a police constable and four militants had been injured.
