Roadside bomb targeted NATO-led troops convoy in Herat province west of Afghanistan, wounding three persons -- one Afghan police and two passersby -- on Monday, police said.
"A convoy of Italian forces was passing the road leading to Herat airport at 09:50 a.m. local time when a roadside bomb went off as a result two civilians and a policeman sustained injuries," police spokesman in western region Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Xinhua.
The incident occurred while police escorted the military convoy, he further said. However, he declined to comment if there were any casualties on the troops.
Some 2,800 Italian troops have been serving in Afghanistan within the framework of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to help strengthen security in the war-battered country.
Ahmadi, furthermore put the attack on the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants.
Taliban fighters who have vowed to speed up activities this year in Afghanistan have yet to make comment.
