SCO launches second live-ammunition drill

The troops from five Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries launched their second live-ammunition drill on Sunday in the southern Kazakh training ground.

The live firing, also the fourth joint training of the "Peace Mission 2010" anti-terror exercise, involved tanks, armored vehicles, fighter planes, bombers, rockets and anti-aircraft missiles.
During the more than one-hour drill, participating forces conducted three operations -- fire preparation and breakthrough, raiding "enemies" hiding in residential areas, and putting reserve forces into the battle.
Lieutenant General Li Shaojun, vice commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's Beijing Military Area Command and commander of the 1,000-strong Chinese troops, said the joint training met the anticipated goal and coordination had improved among the participating forces.
The third and final phase of the drill will start next Friday.
"Peace Mission 2010," the seventh joint drill of its kind within the framework of the SCO, involved 5,000 troops from five of the six SCO member states -- China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan -- from Sept. 9 to 25. Uzbekistan is not taking part in the drill.
