China will work with the United States to push forward bilateral ties after the U.S. midterm elections, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Thursday.
Asked to comment on the U.S. midterm elections, Hong said a long-term stable, healthy China-U.S. relationship is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and conducive to world peace and development.
"We believe the Democrats, the Republicans and other sectors of the U.S. society will also agree with this," Hong told reporters at a regular news briefing.
China is willing to work with the U.S. to continue to advance the positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship in the 21st Century, Hong said.
Early results of the U.S. midterm elections indicate the Democrats have lost control of the House of Representatives and the Republican Party has increased its presence in the Senate.
