Israeli warplanes hit several targets in the Gaza Strip early Wednesday in a continuation of weeks of violence in the enclave, witnesses and security sources said.
A camp for the armed wing of Islamic Hamas movement was hit twice minutes after midnight in Central Gaza Strip, the security sources said. Shortly afterwards, the F-16 jets struck another training site in the north of the Strip.
The Israeli air strikes came hours after a Palestinian activist was killed on his motorcycle by an Israeli missile in southern Gaza Strip. Israel said that the militant, Mohammed al-Naggar, was involved in planning "a massive terror attack in the heart of Israel."
Islamic Jihad movement, which the 24-year-old al-Naggar belonged to, threatened to respond to "the assassination crime."
