As many as 5,000 people were wounded in 11 days of demonstration to force President Hosni Mubarak to immediately end his 30-year rule, Egyptian Health Minister Ahmed Sameh Farid told State TV on Friday.
Farid said the ministry will issue an in-depth statement on Saturday about the casualties of a series of demonstrations across the nation.
Inspired by the uprising in Tunisia, thousands of Egyptian have taken to the streets since Jan. 25, ratcheting up their demonstration. Over the past days, protesters have camped out in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo.
