The last chartered flight of China left Malta early Saturday, bringing the evacuation operation from turmoil-hit Libya via the Mediterranean island to an end.
A total of 19 chartered flights of China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines had taken off from Malta since Feb. 26, carrying some 4993 Chinese nationals back home from Malta, according to the Chinese Embassy in Malta.
The majority of the evacuated Chinese nationals were plucked out of Libya to Malta by three chartered vessels since Feb. 26.
In the meantime, a total of 41 evacuees from Malta, Italy, Croatia, Vietnam and Philippine had also been evacuated from Libya to Malta by the three vessels chartered by the Chinese government, the embassy said.
China has successfully evacuated more than 35860 Chinese nationals from Libya by Wednesday and the overall evacuation was largely over by Saturday.
