China on Tuesday said it expected the upcoming meeting of BRICS countries to produce positive results.
"China believes the BRICS countries will follow the principle of democracy and transparency, step up consultation and seek positive results from the meeting," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said during the regular briefing on Tuesday.
In mid-April, China will host the third summit of leaders from BRICS countries, which refers to major emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, in the southern city of Sanya, Hainan Province.
"We expect the meeting will enhance the political trust among all member countries," Jiang said.
As leaders are expected to exchange ideas on economic and financial issues, Jiang called on the summit to help the emerging economies play a positive role in promoting worldwide economic recovery.
"We expect the meeting will pay attention to global development, push the implementation of millennium development goals and promote sustainable development," Jiang said.
She appealed for the summit to lay a solid foundation and broaden cooperation among BRICS nations.
