China on Tuesday called on relevant parties in Libya to give priority to the interests of the country and its people and actively consider the African Union (AU) road map for solving the crisis in the North African country.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a press conference that China urges all parties in Libya to reach a cease-fire and resolve the crisis through political means, adding that China is willing to work with the international community to seek a political solution.
"Libya's future should be decided by its own people, and China respects the Libyan people's choice," Hong said.
He also said Libyan foreign minister Abdelati Obeidi will visit China from Tuesday to Thursday as the Libyan government's special envoy.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will meet with Obeidi and discuss a political solution to the crisis, Hong said.
