Two Uganda-registered buses on Friday crushed in neighboring southern Sudan killing 29 people and critically injuring 75 others, a Ugandan police spokesman said.
Vincent Sekatte, deputy police spokesman, told Xinhua by telephone that the gruesome accident occurred 40 km into southern Sudan from the Nimule border post.
"The accident occurred at a sharp corner, the two buses had a head-on collision," he said, attributing the accident to over- speeding.
He said of the 29 dead, 23 were Ugandans while six were Sudanese.
Those who are critically injured are admitted at a hospital in Nimule, said the spokesman.
The buses involved in the accident are Baby Coach registration number UAP 437L and Bakulu Coach registration number UAM 258Z.
Each bus has a capacity of about 60 people.
There is increased business between Uganda and southern Sudan with many buses plying the route.
