The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) suffered great human and material losses caused by typhoon-9, Muifa, the official KCNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
According to the KCNA, the typhoon killed more than 10 people and destroyed many houses in North Hwanghae province. An estimated 1,000 hectares of crops were damaged and some 1,000 trees fell down in the province.
More than 100 houses and 10 public buildings were destroyed and 10 power pylons collapsed, cutting off electricity supply, and 23,000 hectares of farmland were affected by Muifa in South Hwanghae province, the report added.
A detailed survey of the damage and relief work are underway.
Muifa landed on the Korean Peninsula on Monday evening.
