Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu expressed China's grief and sympathy for flood-hit Pakistan during a Tuesday press briefing.
China will provide emergency humanitarian aid worth 30 million yuan (about 4.7 million U.S. dollars) to Pakistan as a token of friendship between the two countries, Jiang said.
"We hope the (relief) materials will be helpful for Pakistan in overcoming its calamity," Jiang said, adding that China believes the Pakistani government and people can conquer the flood and rebuild their homes.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari last week appealed to the international community to provide assistance for millions of people who have been affected by monsoon rains and flooding in southern Pakistan.
