China hopes to enhance communication with Arab countries and the Arab League in a bid to play a positive and constructive role in promoting a political settlement in Syria issues, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said Tuesday.
Chinese Ambassador Li Huaxin met with Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Monday.
According to Liu, Li will also visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar to exchange views about Syria.
Chinese Special Envoy to the Middle East Wu Sike is scheduled to visit Israel, Palestine and Jordan from Feb. 19 to 23, Liu said at a press briefing.
He said China has a consensus with Arab League nations on stopping the violence, protecting civilians, and starting political dialogue.
"We hope to further enhance communication with Arab countries and the Arab League so as to play a positive and constructive role in promoting a political settlement in Syria," he said.
