Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at his annual press conference that the situation in Syria is not a defeat for Russia.
Russian forces arrived in Syria 10 years ago so that a terrorist enclave would not arise there, and Russia achieved its goals, Putin said.
Russia will consider keeping military bases in Syria, he said, adding that the vast majority of Middle Eastern countries support Russia in maintaining its military bases in Syria.
Russia has no troops on the ground in Syria, but military bases, Putin said.
