GENEVA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Friday warned of more difficulties facing the UN agencies and other organizations in providing humanitarian aid in Syria.
"Any intensification of the conflict leads to the risk of larger outflow of Syrians, more difficult access to the Syrian population that we are trying to help," Antonio Guterres said.
Humanitarian aid is provided throughout the country on the basis of need, regardless of political, religious, ethnic or sectarian affiliation, but access to people in need remains the most difficult problem.
"If conflict intensifies, the capacity to delivery there will be more and more limited," he said, referring to aid to both Syrians and Iraqi refugees.
The latest statistics from the UNHCR showed that over 20,000 Iraqi refugees have recently returned to their home country as a result of the worsening violence inside Syria. Enditem
