China has given more honorary titles to the eight peacekeeping police officers killed in Haiti earthquake after awarding them "martyrs," the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) announced Monday.
Three of the officers, Li Qin, Zhong Jianqin and He Zhihong, were posthumously awarded "peacekeeping heroes" by the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the MPS said in a statement on its website.
The other five officers were awarded "hero models" by the MPS and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
Besides pure glories, the honorary titles normally mean the officers' family members would be taken care of by the government.
The officers were found dead after the 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12 local time.
Millions of Chinese, including the country's top leaders, bade farewell to the bodies at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing or by other means such as via the Internet.
