An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale hit the sea off Taiwan's Hualien County at 9:08 p.m. Beijing Time Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter was monitored at 24.1 degrees north latitude and 122.4 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 8 kilometers, the center said.
Taiwan meteorological authorities set the magnitude at 5.4 on the Richter scale with a depth of 18.8 kilometers.
The tremor was felt in Taipei, but no casualty has been reported so far.
This is the second tremor that hit the island this week. A magnitude-4.9 earthquake hit the border area of Taiwan's Tainan County and Chiayi County on Monday.
